Was ist chinesische Philosophie?

Today, no serious engagement with Chinese philosophy is possible that does not acknowledge the reinterpretation of classical Chinese sources using Western terminology, a task that Chinese-speaking philosophy has tirelessly pursued in the 20th century. This leads to a dynamic interaction between the old and the new, the Eastern and the Western, which disrupts the comparative relationship of more or less stable national, cultural, and linguistic identities and compels the development of alternative, transcultural perspectives. The significance of such a shift is explored in the first part of the book through an engagement with perhaps the most influential interpreter of Chinese thought today: François Jullien. The second part continues this line of inquiry with an in-depth examination of the current, conflicting interpretations of the Zhuangzi.
