Since 1989, Côte d'Ivoire has been in a critical phase of its growth towards becoming a modern and strong state that meets the demands of a developed country. The intensification of the economic crisis that began on the threshold of the 1980s has plunged the country into a real abyss, leading to new political and institutional realities affecting the nation. Politically, the country is being restructured through the opening up to a multiparty system, and institutionally through the introduction of the office of a Prime Minister into the executive branch, as well as the appointment of a constitutional dolphin. The actors and consequences of this restructuring are preparing a deep political crisis that is evolving and intensifying, becoming a quagmire for the country. The politically polarized population is now lined up in a battle according to political allegiance. The effects of this deep division render the state so weak that it loses its public authority, significantly hindering all efforts to build a solid and strong nation. This book provides an overview of the various actors and assesses the impact of their actions from the preparation to the deterioration of the situation.
