Product details
A flea market find in the 1970s led to the creation of a unique collection now comprising 500,000 photographs. Today, Ruth and Peter Herzog are among the most important photo collectors in the world. The holdings in their collection date from the early days of the technique, which was invented in 1839, and go back to the 1970s. They include not only the famous pioneers of the medium such as Nadar or Eadweard Muybridge, but also previously little-known or anonymous photographers. This publication provides the first comprehensive portrait of this fascinatingly diverse collection. Thematic focal points are presented on the basis of around 300 selected objects. The text contributions are devoted to central themes of photography, such as the tense relationship to art or the conclusions that analog photography allows for today's digital image use.
