Student research project from the year 2009 in the subject area Theology - Biblical Theology, grade: 9, Saarland University, language: German, abstract: Within the Gospel of Matthew, the pericope is positioned in the first half, being surrounded by the miracles of Jesus that precede it and the parables that follow it. The pericope of the healing of the withered hand forms the second part of the cycle of arguments about the Sabbath in Matthew's Gospel. In terms of content, both pericopes address the interpretation of the Sabbath law. While the first story deals with the picking of ears of corn on the Sabbath, the second addresses a far more important issue, namely whether it is permissible to help people on the Sabbath. In the structure of Matthew's Gospel, the Sabbath controversies between Jesus on the one hand and the Pharisees on the other introduce the intensified conflict between the two parties.
