In the novel "Eternal Loyalty" by Sandra Brown, the author has dealt with the professional football sport in the USA. But fame has its dark sides, as Sandra Brown lets the reader know using the example of Griff Burkett. The acclaimed football player made illegal bets to finance his rampant lifestyle. The Dallas Cowboys' playmaker commits the mortal sin of manipulating the Super Bowl final and deliberately losing. But the fraud is exposed. Sandra Brown describes in "Eternal Loyalty" how the formerly celebrated star loses his money, his job and the respect of all the people in his life. After Burkett was released from prison after five years, nobody is willing to give him a second chance. "Eternal loyalty" seemed to be out of the question, at least for the quarterback who had become a criminal. Author Sandra Brown describes how Burkett is almost destroyed by hatred and rejection. But then the millionaire businessman Foster Speakman makes him an immoral offer. In "Eternal Fidelity", the sterile Speakman wants Burkett to impregnate his wife Laura. If successful, Burkett would cash in $1 million a year. The plan works and Laura gets pregnant. But then Speakman is brutally murdered. Burkett fights against the suspicion of murder and his feelings for widow Laura.
