E.T.A. Hoffmann-Jahrbuch 2022

The 30th volume of the E.T.A. Hoffmann Yearbook begins with an article on 'Fräulein von Scuderi', which proposes an innovative perspective on the original scene of Cardillac. The following contribution explores Hoffmann's legal writings and disputes, as well as their literary adaptations in 'Meister Floh' and 'Lebens-Ansichten des Katers Murr', incorporating literary-legal aspects. Further essays focus on the reception of E.T.A. Hoffmann in China and a psychoanalytic examination of the poetics of the uncanny in 'Elixirs of the Devil'. Additionally, 'Elixirs of the Devil' and 'Kater Murr' are analyzed in terms of manuscript culture and their materiality.
