Charles Bukowski is one of the most renowned contemporary writers in America, both in poetry and prose, and many would argue that he is the most influential and most imitated poet. He was born in 1920 in Andernach, Germany, to an American soldier and a German mother, and was brought to the United States at the age of two. He grew up in Los Angeles and lived there for more than fifty years. He passed away on March 9, 1994, in San Pedro, California, at the age of seventy-three, shortly after completing his last novel, Pulp.
