How do teenagers interpret a biblical text? Using the documentary method, group discussions among teenagers are analyzed to draw didactic conclusions for working with the Bible in youth contexts. Teenagers often struggle to provide well-founded explanations about the implications of their interpretations or their discourse about God. Descriptions of the interpretation processes and difficulties faced by teenagers offer important insights for biblical didactics. Thus, engaging in theology with teenagers is developed didactically as a space that allows them to engage with biblical texts, think openly about theological questions, and embark on a search for fundamental beliefs. This responsibility lies with the educational actors, and it requires an education-appropriate, gender-sensitive, open-ended, context-sensitive, and diversity-sensitive approach to theology.
