Es gibt so Tage

Heinz Janisch was born in 1960 in Güssing, Burgenland. He studied German studies and journalism in Vienna. Since 1982, he has been working as a freelance contributor for ORF Radio, creating and hosting radio programs. He writes both children's books and books for adults. Heinz Janisch has received several literary awards, including the Austrian Promotion Prize for Children's and Youth Literature in 1998. "I am a traveler with things and books. It is important to me that children experience books as a gift, like a kind of surprise bag: You open it and let yourself be surprised. Whenever someone asks me, 'Why do you write children's books?', I think to myself, no one would ask John Irving why he writes adult books! You simply write books that – if all goes well – appeal to both an eight-year-old and an eighty-year-old!"

Everyone knows those days when the city feels like a jungle, when everyone seems to be upside down or wants to lean against something. But there are also days when shadows have colors and everyone can fly. And then there are days when Merike lies comfortably in bed and invents stories. Those are the most beautiful days.
