All of the stories by the great Russian poet Pushkin were not only romantic poetry, the author of 'Eugene Onegin' and 'Boris Godunov', but also a prose artist of the highest rank. This edition of all his stories includes the cycle 'The Tales of the Late Ivan Petrovich Belkin' with the famous novellas 'The Shot', 'The Snowstorm', 'The Postmaster'; the fantastical tale 'The Queen of Spades', influenced by E.T.A. Hoffmann, about a half-mad murderous gambler; and finally 'Kirdzhali' and the historical novella 'The Captain's Daughter'. Despite many romantic motifs, Pushkin's realistic, at times laconic language is striking and had a decisive impact on the Russian literary language: under his influence were Turgenev and Tolstoy, and his character types can be found in Gogol and Dostoevsky.
