Product details

Transhumanism is the latest attempt to create a new human being. While in the past, submission to predefined political and social norms aimed to re-educate, that is, remake, humanity, transhumanism directly attacks the human body itself. The human body can become ill and die, which the proponents of this ideology see as a scandal that must be overcome through optimization. This is to be achieved through the use of modern biotechnologies such as genetic engineering, body sensors, or nanotechnology, along with constant monitoring of bodily functions and an ever-deepening merging of human and machine. What is desirable should be possible: even the abolition of genders or the genetic manipulation of offspring. From a Christian perspective, an ideology in which humans declare themselves to be the new creators of humanity raises a number of questions that were addressed in the theological summer course 2022 at the Gustav Siewerth Academy. The authors of the contributions include Prof. Paul Cullen, Susanne Hartfiel, Msgr. Dr. Winfried König, Cardinal Gerhard Ludwig Müller, Michael Stickelbroeck, Pastor Prof. Dr. Werner Thiede, and Dr. Dirk Weisbrod. The contributions and insights contained in this volume can contribute to a better understanding of transhumanism.
