Everyone is familiar with inflammation in general. It is important and biologically meaningful, and at times, it is even essential for survival. Inflammation is a response of the immune system in the fight against unwanted intruders such as viruses, bacteria, or toxins. Much less known, however, is that a poor diet, lack of exercise and sleep, chronic stress, or various environmental toxins can trigger silent inflammatory processes that have far-reaching health consequences. These silent inflammations become chronic and tend to remain undetected for long periods. They smolder quietly in the depths of our organs, harming both body and mind. It is now widely accepted that these silent, undetected smoldering fires are a major cause of various civilization diseases such as rheumatism, heart attacks, and strokes.
