The use of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems for business process optimization and data integration was long reserved for the big players. The implementation of such a system was too expensive, risky, and complex for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). However, to remain competitive in the long term, it has become necessary for SMEs to optimize their processes through the use of an ERP system. The manufacturers of these systems have responded to this demand by developing specific solutions for medium-sized businesses. The public sector is also undergoing the long-overdue transformation from a bureaucratic playground to a cost-efficient service provider. To truly bring to life the promising-sounding Anglicisms New Public Management and E-Government, a powerful system is required.
