In the modified new edition (Feyerabend wrote a new introduction and rewrote the central chapter on relativism) of Erkenntnis für freie Menschen, Feyerabend draws the political consequences from this thesis: "How does a citizen judge the proposals of the institutions that surround him, live off his money and deface his existence, and how does he judge these institutions himself? He needs standards and criteria - that's what we keep hearing from our intellectuals. But what standards will he choose? The answer I give, explain and defend to this question in this book is as follows: In a free society, the citizen uses the standards of the tradition to which he belongs."
