Erich Kästner mit spitzer Feder - 25 Gedichte

Erich Kästner wrote most of his poems during the Golden Twenties and in the great economic crisis after 1929, which were published in newspapers and magazines. Kästner sought the public eye because he took the questions of his contemporaries seriously: What is love really like, why are the common people so poor, where is all this progress leading us, how can we overcome militarism and the spirit of subservience, how do we cope in everyday life, whether only a revolution can bring us forward, what a better world would look like, and what can be done with language, and of course, not least, what kind of person he himself is in this wild time in the great city of Berlin. He wrote poems about these topics with a sharp pen. The pen was so sharp that some readers indignantly asked him, "And where is the positive, Mr. Kästner?" To which he casually replied, "Well, who knows?".
