Erich Heckel (1883-1970) was a founding member of the artist group Brücke, a pioneer of Expressionism and a significant representative of Classical Modernism in post-war Germany. Heckel's printmaking work consists of nearly 1,100 woodcuts, lithographs, and etchings created between 1903 and 1968. The three-volume catalog of his oeuvre offers a comprehensive, critically annotated revision of Dube's first catalog from 1964/74, providing fascinating insights into the multifaceted graphic work of this significant Expressionist through numerous explanatory notes, the listing and description of individual prints, and cross-references to his other works.
