Ergotherapie in der Geriatrie

By the year 2050, the number of people aged 80 and older in Germany is expected to rise to approximately 10 million. This highlights the significance of demographic change and the societal challenges that come with it. Occupational therapy plays a crucial role in maintaining the functional ability, autonomy, and quality of life of older individuals and their relatives. Exciting challenges await occupational therapists in this field in the future. The editors have successfully created a comprehensive framework that spans various settings relevant to elderly individuals with limitations, starting from demographic, medical, and legal foundations. Numerous assessments suitable for capturing the life situation of geriatric clients, as well as diverse occupational therapy approaches, are presented. A dedicated chapter focuses on the manifestations of dementia and the care of individuals with dementia-related changes. Based on activity-oriented and client-centered models, various occupational therapy intervention options are exemplified. Additionally, the support of relatives, as well as aspects of home modifications and assistive device provision, are addressed. This volume is designed to enhance the competencies of experienced geriatric occupational therapists and to facilitate the entry of learners and newcomers into the field of geriatrics.
