At its center is a text from the 13th century: "The Consolation of the Soul" (Mufarriḥ an-nafs) by the Damascene physician Ibn Qāḍī Baʿalbakk, a scholar in the tradition of Ibn Sīnā. Starting from this source, the author employs a discourse analytical approach to examine the various branches of spiritual medicine that can be identified in the text, highlighting that the associated discourse encompasses both specific medical and pharmaceutical orientations and can contribute to the understanding of the ethics discourse in Islam.
