In the 1970s, business and politics asked themselves whether the strengths of dual vocational education and training could also be transferred to the higher education sector by anchoring academic degrees in vocational profiles. This is how the dual study programme came into being. However, in order to be able to profit from the advantages of dual study programmes, the participating companies must act in a more dispositive manner in the selection, supervision and, above all, management with professional integration of the students; they are faced with the challenge of sounding out suitable study programmes and training them according to the company and study objectives.
