Erdling

A quest for the buried German mentality. Emma Erdling is notoriously broke. Only thanks to the support of her childless great-aunt was she able to establish herself as a private detective under the pseudonym "Andreas von Erdling" in the city's most expensive neighborhood, even though she never intended to solve real cases. Instead, she stages her life as a soap opera of a tough, leftist investigator on social media, until unforeseen events shake her comfortably arranged existence and a shitstorm destroys her virtual life. However, the very next day, she is to take on her first, seemingly unsolvable case: Oskar Lafontaine visits her office. His wife has been kidnapped by aliens, and he wants her back; money is no object. The search for the abducted Sahra Wagenknecht soon reveals itself as a journey into a repressed consciousness, to parts of an identity that Emma Erdling was as far from at the beginning of the story as a galaxy beyond the Milky Way. At the same time, the novel takes us on an odyssey through the bright and dark forces of German history, reaching out into outer space, effortlessly transcending all boundaries of time and space.
