Nostradamus oder die Zeiten, die sich geändert haben

At the beginning, there is the rescue of a copy of Nostradamus' prophecies from a devastated castle library in Flanders by the author's father in October 1918. Almost 100 years later, the author visits the scene of the events and holds the rescued copy in his hands. A circle has been closed. The father lost his position as a bookseller due to the Nuremberg racial laws, and the family lived under the threats of the Nazi era until the end of the war. The political developments in the Soviet occupation zone/GDR led to the father's resignation and disappointment. At the end of the author's school years stood June 17, 1953. The relatively free atmosphere of studying English and library science at Humboldt University was as formative as the cultural impressions from the "struggle of systems" in 1950s Berlin before the construction of the Wall.
