Product details
About two years ago, the company Urban & Schwarzenberg approached me with the proposal to publish an encyclopedia of technical chemistry, which would consist of approximately 10 volumes and be released over the course of 3 to 4 years. Thus, after nearly two years of intensive preliminary work, the basic plan for the entire work was developed, and the arrangement and scope of the individual articles to be included were determined. The subject of this broadly based work encompasses not only the chemical bulk industry and metallurgy with its mechanical and apparatus aids but also the numerous related fields that deal with material transformation or the refinement of matter in general.
In accordance with the encyclopedic character of the work, the arrangement of the material had to be alphabetical. However, it seemed advisable for the sake of clarity and to avoid repetitions to group areas that are closely related in content. To facilitate the use of the work in every conceivable way, numerous references and very detailed subject indexes provided with each volume serve to quickly locate a substance; a general index will conclude the work, encompassing the entire encyclopedia. The spelling follows the scientific notation according to Jansen.
The present ninth volume of the Encyclopedia of Technical Chemistry covers topics from nitrate to tin dyes and is illustrated with over 340 historical images. This book is an unaltered reprint of the original edition of the second revised edition from 1932.
