The present book is the publication of the thesis by Enrico Tietz, which he completed in the winter semester of 2003 at the University of Rostock. In the course of this work, the author developed a Workflow Management System. This book describes the concept, architecture, and implementation of the Workflow Management System. The standardized description language XPDL, established by the WfMC (Workflow Management Coalition), is used to describe workflows. The functionality of the workflow system is demonstrated through two practical workflows (leave request, investment management).
