Englische Übersetzung von Soft News: Funktionalistische Ansätze

Nowadays, the world is trending towards globalization, and as a result, Chinese reporting for foreign audiences is becoming increasingly important. Soft news has become a window through which the world can learn about Chinese society and culture. Therefore, the translation of soft news holds particular significance. This study aims to explore the best methods for translating soft news using functionalist approaches, in order to provide a better translation for foreign audiences while ensuring effective reporting abroad. Functionalist approaches offer many insights for the translation of soft news, particularly theories regarding the translator's intentionality, the acceptance of the target text, and cultural specificity, which form the theoretical foundation for the translation method of soft news adaptation. The study demonstrates the applicability of functionalist approaches to the translation of soft news and examines three types of adaptation (expansion, omission, and creation) through examples. This study is likely to be beneficial for professionals in the fields of translation and news dissemination, as well as for anyone interested in cross-cultural communication between China and the Western world.
