Thus, Niemann (2002, p. 15) describes the influence stories have on primary school children. She further explains that most children have had many experiences with stories before they start school: Children listen when stories are told, they retell them, make assumptions and interpret them in their own way. They spin stories that they particularly like, transform them into their own world of experience and give free rein to their imagination. At the same time, their imagination is trained. She advocates that children should also read / listen to the original titles of books that they have heard about.
