It was Itten's wish to convey the knowledge of the laws and possibilities of colors to a much larger circle of interested individuals, especially students, with a more modest and accessible book than what was possible with the large "Art of Color." This idea of a small color theory underlies the present publication. The urgency of this idea grew as the importance of colors increased in recent years, in art, photography and television, in clothing and home, and in daily life.
