Leipzig, March 1920: The Kapp Putsch breaks out. Frustrated soldiers of the Reichswehr have declared the government in Berlin deposed. In Leipzig, as in many German cities, bloody battles erupt between government troops and putschists. The civil war-like conditions keep Inspector Stainer on edge - even within the Wächterburg, as the völkisch-nationalist colleagues of Stainer wish to see the Weimar Republic in ruins and the putschists in power. As if that weren't enough, Stainer notices among the many dead in the streets some victims who have been strangled or stabbed in a conspicuous manner. Someone seems to be taking advantage of the chaos to commit their murders under the guise of the unrest. Clues from tram driver Josephine König and her daughter Mona, who is determined to become a police officer, lead Stainer and Junghans into the theater scene - where someone is carrying out their own vendetta.
