In Strasbourg, at the station exit, this person suddenly stands next to the narrator ("Are you also looking for a hotel?") and does not want to leave his side. From hour to hour, the Basel philosopher (Spinoza specialist) is besieged by this swashbuckler and alleged musician (fickle Schubert admirer), bullied, drunk under the table and talked to the wall until there is only one terrible way out... The novel is about the devastating consequences of not getting rid of a stranger at the crucial moment. It tells of how a person's everyday life can change fatally in a very short time. Without the people involved realizing what fate they are heading for, things take their course. A wonderfully abysmal novel, whose comedy comes from the horror and whose musicality bi the events.
