Die Bayerischen Suffragetten

Our emancipatory pioneers began the fight for equal rights over 120 years ago. In a revolutionary and scandalous thinker pose, with a cigarette and in a pantsuit, many of them were suspected of being "radical." In Bavaria, and especially in the state capital Munich, salon hostesses, writers, artists, as well as innkeepers, actresses, and businesswomen demanded their right to self-determination. Many of these women have been rediscovered in recent years, such as the writer Carry Brachvogel, the painter Ida Maly, or the women's rights activist Anita Augspurg. Others, like the politician Toni Pfülf or the writer and sculptor Christa Winsloe, are waiting to be rediscovered. This book presents these unconventional female personalities.
