Polar bear Knut, cloned sheep Dolly, problem bear Bruno, walrus Antje, rescue dog Barry, or wolf Bärbel were stars in their lifetimes. The poet Elvira Steppacher questions the demands placed on these media-hyped animals. She dedicates poems to the icons and gives space to the biographies of the animals. In the desire for preservation, a paradox emerges. What we want to keep is often long gone.
