Product details
Dr. Wilhelm Borchers lived from 1856 to 1925. He studied chemistry and eventually earned his doctorate with distinction at the University of Erlangen. In 1899, he became a professor at RWTH Aachen and subsequently facilitated the establishment of an institute for metallurgical science and electrometallurgy, which opened in 1903. He was highly significant in his field, and even today, doctoral candidates at RWTH Aachen who pass their doctoral examination with distinction are awarded the Borchers plaque. The present work "Electro-Metallurgy" is a carefully revised reprint of the second, completely reworked edition from 1896. In this work, the author discusses the benefits of electrochemistry and electrical engineering for the metallurgical methods of the time, particularly in the extraction of metals.
