Product details
This work provides an introduction to the field of electric drive technology. Starting from the mechanical and electromagnetic fundamentals, the drive concepts are explained using both direct current machines and asynchronous and synchronous machines. System equations, signal flow diagrams, and control variants are presented and discussed. The textbook concludes with exercises and exam questions along with solutions.
The seventh edition includes additional chapters on the topic of reluctance synchronous machines, which are expected to play an increasingly important role in industrial and electric mobility applications due to their extremely simple and thus cost-effective rotor design, as well as on the topic of "sensorless control," which also contributes significantly to the cost and reliability of electric drives.
The textbook series initiated by Prof. Dierk Schröder includes, in addition to the introductory title "Electric Drives – Fundamentals," the volumes "Electric Drives – Control of Drive Systems," "Intelligent Methods – Identification and Control of Nonlinear Systems," as well as the books "Power Electronic Circuits" and "Power Electronic Components."
The book is aimed at students of electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science, and related fields at both technical universities and colleges. The entire work is also excellent as a reference for industrial practice.
The authors are Univ.-Prof. i.R. Dr.-Ing. Dr.-Ing. h.c. Dierk Schröder, Fellow IEEE, and Univ.-Prof. Dr.-Ing. Dr. h.c. Ralph Kennel, Fellow IET, Senior Member IEEE, both from the Technical University of Munich, Chair of Electric Drive Systems and Power Electronics.
