In the Czech Giant Mountains at the source of the Elbe, an exciting and varied journey begins through the charming landscape of Bohemia. Numerous noteworthy towns line the approximately 360-kilometer route, where you can trace the development of the Elbe from a small stream to a large river. There is plenty to discover: enjoy the sight of the distinctive statues at the former hospital in Kuks, visit the unique marketplace in Hradec Králové, or explore the East Bohemian Museum in the Pardubice Castle. Immerse yourself in the traces of Czech history in the small Elbe towns of Nymburk, Podebrady, or Stará Boleslav, and from the center of Melník, perched high above the Elbe Valley, take in the confluence of the Vltava River. Even off the main route, you can reach worthwhile destinations. A highly recommended excursion is to Kutná Hora, whose old town is a UNESCO World Heritage site, as well as a detour to the center of the "Golden City," Prague.
