Product details

The Eifel is part of the Rhenish Slate Mountains, bordered to the east by the Rhine and to the south by the Moselle. To the west, it transitions into the Ardennes, which already belong to Belgium. To the north, it descends along a line from Aachen to Bonn and merges into the Lower Rhine Bay. From 1815, the region belonged to Prussia. The Eifel, as a poor peripheral area of their empire, was of interest to the new rulers only for military reasons. With the founding of the German Empire in 1871, many railway lines were established, primarily serving strategic purposes. Volume 2 is dedicated to the routes of the eastern Eifel between the Rhine and the Eifel railway, the Moselle line, and the connection from Erdorf to Bitburg to Igel. It also includes the history of the branch lines originating from Euskirchen, Düren, and Kall, as well as a total of five private railways.
