Somewhere in Europe in the early 1930s: A hunter sneaks onto the estate of a feared dictator, takes aim, and prepares to shoot. But he is discovered. They torture him, throw him off a cliff, making it look like an accident. Yet he does not die; he escapes. A breathtaking manhunt begins. He flees through enemy territory, evades his pursuers, and even reaches his homeland. But there is no safety for him anywhere. Hounded by secret agents and hunted by the police, he eventually hides like a wounded animal in his self-dug burrow, lurking and waiting. Weeks and months pass. He battles against cold and damp, hunger and fear, until it finally comes to one last fight - a fight for life and death.
