80 pencil and colored pencil drawings by Erna Frank are accompanied by an equal number of poems and some statements from the following authors: Wolf Wondratschek, Sylvia Treudl, Franz Schuh, Christian Schreibmüller, Gerhard Ruiss, Ulrich Horstmann, Peter Gorsen, Karl-Markus Gauss, Bernhard Frankfurter, Walter Famler, Stephan Eibel, and Gottfried Distl. Erna Frank's unique art - including her oil paintings - is explored through 12 essays by Rudolf Burger, Sonia Grassberger, Sven Hartberger, Bernhard Kraller, Rainer Metzger, Alfred J. Noll, Rotraud A. Perner, Erwin Riess, Peter Strasser, Alexander Wied, Herbert J. Wimmer, and Franz Schuh. Additionally, the illustrated book contains a biography and an extensive bibliography of the artist. “Erna Frank, always inclined to observe her environment with a sharp and malicious eye, has often felt a connection to the veristic wing of New Objectivity, akin to ruthless painters like the early Otto Dix and George Grosz. Her sole theme is the human figure, more specifically the couple based on man and woman, which is depicted in either cozy-sensual or sexually tumultuous relationships, or in intimate, familial bonds.
