Schneider is investigating the legal framework of electronic patient files across institutions, which can be used to make all previously collected health data available at the place of treatment at any time. He illustrates this framework by means of regulatory instruments such as the granting of financial incentives for the use of such records or even the obligation to do so. The author moves in the area of conflict between data protection and health protection. On the one hand, these files offer the opportunity to improve the quality and efficiency of care. On the other hand, there are risks if patient data is stored on external servers and exchanged via electronic networks. There is a threat of data, responsibility and trust evaporating in the network.
