The profit determination, known as the income surplus calculation (EÜR), is intended to provide relief and simplification, especially significant time and cost savings, for certain groups of people who are not legally required to maintain accounting records. However, practice has shown multiple times that some problems can arise in this process. The aim of this book is to present the entire systematics, characteristics, and peculiarities of this method of profit determination in a clear and concise manner. First, an overview of all possible profit determination methods in German tax law is provided, along with an explanation of the requirements for choosing the EÜR. Subsequent chapters deal with the essential differences between the EÜR and the balance sheet comparison in the areas of fixed assets, current assets, and liabilities, as well as the actual profit determination scheme of the EÜR and the resulting peculiarities and characteristics. Finally, the conditions for changing the method of profit determination are presented, and the transition calculation from EÜR to the balance sheet comparison and vice versa is explained with examples.
