The dog has been the companion of man for thousands of years. Jan Philipp Reemtsma's excursions to the "dog in painting" distinguish, teach and entertain the different functions they have in painting. "Dogs as accessories, which simply provide the painting with an optical or genre-specific loosening up - and dogs, which appear strangely prominent in the painting, without one being able to say, at first glance, what they are actually doing there.
