The average citizen never sees much of the information collected by modern devices. However, this information can be crucial in resolving a legal matter or crime, and computer forensics often plays a role in identifying and securing this information. Digital evidence is not only useful in solving crimes in the digital realm, such as data theft, network breaches, and illegal online transactions. It is also used to solve crimes in the physical world, such as burglaries, robberies, hit-and-run accidents, and murder.
