With the shutdown of the last nuclear power plants in Germany, one era comes to an end - and a new one begins: that of the disposal of radioactive waste from past decades. In this book of photographs, a team of authors from the Technical University of Berlin works through the controversial, sometimes almost comical history of nuclear power in Germany with the help of extensively researched portraits of all commercial German nuclear power plants.

In the process, information is provided - along with a lavishly produced series of photos - about well-known and lesser-known incidents, the status of dismantling and the radioactive waste in storage. In addition, the transition to the new age of the "radioactive legacy" is examined in detail.
