This connection provides a direct reference to the lived reality of the students. Furthermore, both genres explore the relationship between the familiar and the foreign—another current reference to our societal reality. From a subject-specific perspective, still life and landscape representation are genres that can exemplarily illustrate the development of art itself. The teaching modules presented reflect this in their chronological sequence. Module 1 demonstrates how Dutch Baroque still life sets standards for subsequent periods, focusing on the practice of writing an artwork analysis. Module 2 is dedicated to the work of Caspar David Friedrich, allowing for a proper exploration of Romantic landscape painting. The harmonious coexistence of both image genres in the work of Paul Cézanne is the subject of Module 3; as a pioneer of modern art, it serves a bridging function. Module 4, featuring Wolfgang Tillmans, is dedicated to a photographic work that can be seen as paradigmatic for contemporary engagement with the questions of image and representation. As the final station, it concludes the thematic circle of this issue.
