Product details
In September 1999, "Nordrand" by Barbara Albert premiered in competition at the Venice Film Festival. The feature film debut of the Viennese director was the first film by an Austrian female director to be invited to this prestigious section. The anthology "A Story of One's Own: Women in Film Austria Since 1999" uses this event as the starting point for a success story with international resonance. Through profiles of works, thematic texts, and conversations, it reflects on what has happened in the two decades since. The focus is on contemporary female filmmakers whose works were first publicly recognized around the turn of the millennium, simultaneously or alongside Albert, and who have significantly transformed the local film landscape for future colleagues. The feature-length film was just one of many cinematic forms of expression. The contributions to "A Story of One's Own" include documentary works, hybrid forms, and abstract (digital) moving image compositions, as well as experimental inquiries into film history, short films, and animations represented in the cinema context. Original contributions to the film work of Barbara Albert, Kurdwin Ayub, Katrina Daschner, Sabine Derflinger, Tina Frank, Jessica Hausner, LIA, Ivette Löcker, Ruth Mader, Sabine Marte, Billy Roisz, Anja Salomonowitz, Edith Stauber, Antoinette Zwirchmayr, and many others. The contributions come from Andrea B. Braidt, Esther Buss, Roman Gerold, Maike Mia Höhne, Naoko Kaltschmidt, Dominik Kamalzadeh, Michelle Koch, Birgit Kohler, Claudia Lenssen, Melanie Letschnig, Verena Mund, Doris Priesching, Karin Schiefer, Dietmar Schwärzler, and many others.
