Eine eigene Geschichte

In September 1999, "Nordrand" by Barbara Albert celebrated its world premiere in competition at the Venice Film Festival. The Viennese director's feature film debut was the first film by an Austrian female director to be invited to this prestigious section. The anthology "Eine eigene Geschichte. Frauen Film Österreich seit 1999" takes this event as the starting point for a success story with international resonance. In the form of work portraits, themed texts and discussions, it looks back at what has happened in the two decades since then. The focus is on those contemporary female filmmakers whose employees first came to public attention around the turn of the millennium, either at the same time or together with Albert, and who also had a lasting impact on the domestic film landscape for subsequent female colleagues, with feature-length cinema films being just one of many possibilities for cinematic expression.
