South Australia, 1951: Jackson Hastings breaks with the tradition of running his ancestors' farm that has been upheld for generations. He is drawn to the city. With his grandmother's inheritance, he establishes a department store there. When he becomes engaged to Eloise, the daughter of a wealthy art dealer, he leaves rural life behind for good. But then Melody reenters his life, having had a crush on him since their childhood and teenage years on the farm. Once again, it becomes clear that life cannot be planned and the paths to happiness can sometimes be winding.
