Where is happiness if not in the rose garden? After the death of her husband and the departure of her children, the botanist Sandra is looking for a new beginning for herself. She buys an old gardener's house on Usedom on the Baltic Sea, which includes an overgrown but uniquely beautiful rose garden. But the care of the delicate plants proves to be more difficult than expected, so she has to consult the British rose expert Julian. He helps her, but otherwise behaves strangely aloof.
