Product details
This book presents a national regional model of economic geography. The model defines and classifies the regions of a country based on criteria of population density into three types. The regions within a country are classified as core, fringe, and peripheral regions. The advantage of this classification is twofold. First, it provides a simple three-regional economic geography model consisting of a core region, an adjacent region, and a peripheral region, which can easily be expanded into a multi-regional model. Second, it indicates whether the economic geography of a country consists of a multi-agglomerated production structure. The model is significant because it allows for an investigation of the endogenous forces of economic geography. Additionally, it facilitates the identification of homogeneous regional types between countries in a common market like the EU. Finally, the model offers an alternative empirical framework to the traditional core-periphery model of economic geographical analysis.
