The young Dominique studies at the Sorbonne in Paris without much conviction and is equally unenthusiastic about her relationship with her classmate Bertrand. Student life flows slowly and pleasantly aimlessly until Dominique meets Bertrand's uncle Luc. Although he is happily married, he is not averse to a little adventure, and after some scrupulous hesitation, Dominique spends two hot summer weeks of love with him on the Riviera. When she realizes that she has truly fallen in love, it is already too late. Of course, Luc returns to his wife, and of course, the relationship with Bertrand has no future. A beautiful, young, timeless novel about heartbreak, infused with the sensual melancholy of French existentialism.
