Those suffering from dementia are particularly happy about attention and appropriate stimuli. The read-aloud book awakens memories of the times when the person with dementia was still able to participate more easily in everyday social life. With simple, understandable language, pictorial ideas are brought back on the basis of earlier emotional experiences - memories come alive. Familiar terms and everyday situations such as going for a walk, experiences with animals, wind and weather and encounters with people set memory processes in motion and appeal to the long-term memory. The entertaining stories can be easily varied in length (3 -5 minutes) and content and adapted to the individual needs and abilities of the listeners.
