Ein Europäisches Sozialmodell für die Europäische Union?

The so-called social Europe is one of the greatest challenges of European integration. It raises the question of whether there is even a European social model and whether the European Union possesses the necessary regulatory competencies. This paper systematically examines the scope, objectives, competencies, and prospects for success of a European social model.

The author begins by defining the contours of a European social model. Subsequently, the gradual development of the European social model through the practices of the European Union is presented. Finally, potential perspectives on the European social model are discussed. The focus of the paper is initially on the legal aspects of the European social model, particularly the distribution of competencies between the member states and the EU in the area of social policy.
