Andrea Hämmerle has another passion besides politics: traveling. Since 1966, he has been on the road repeatedly. With friends, with his wife, with family, or even alone, he has visited all continents. He traveled by hitchhiking, in the iconic 68er car Döschwo, on a cargo ship or luxury liner, by train, and also by jet. In his richly illustrated book, Andrea Hämmerle recounts these journeys. He captivatingly shares stories of mishaps in the Sahara, beach life next to Beirut Airport, the lonely Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, the heat of the desert, and the cold of the Siberian winter. As a politically engaged person, he has always been interested in the historical backgrounds and current events of the places he visited. These aspects are also well represented in the book. Important focal points include countries and locations that are largely off-limits to travelers today: Syria, Afghanistan, Algeria, the Sahel.
